The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 requires a center for independent living has, at a minimum, 51% of staff are persons with disabilities and 51% of Board of Directors are persons with significant disabilities. Over 75% of DNCAP staff and Board of Directors identify as having a disability. DNCAP prides itself on being an organization run by persons with disabilities for persons with disabilities. All interactions with DNCAP staff members are more than likely going to be with a person who shares a disability experience.
